Between 07:00 UTC and 08:00 UTC on Sunday 2021-09-05, customers may experience a series of brief interruptions when using the Intercom platform. This is due to planned maintenance work required to upgrade our core Intercom service code to Rails 6.1.
What is the impact? During the maintenance window, Intercom features may be degraded or unavailable for a few minutes. The delivery of some messages may be delayed by several minutes.
Why are we doing this? We keep our codebase up-to-date with the latest industry platforms so that our customers can benefit from the performance and functionality improvements. Customer trust, data security, and availability are critical to everything we do at Intercom. We only do these essential maintenance tasks when necessary and work to ensure that our customers are minimally impacted.
What will the exact experience be for our customers during the change? For a few minutes during the change, the following may occur: • Teammates might experience limited functionality in the Intercom App. • End users might experience limited functionality in the Messenger. • Developers might receive 503 “service unavailable” responses to API requests.
What will happen to messages that are scheduled to be sent during this time? Some messages may be delayed for a few minutes.
What will happen to inbound emails? They will be queued up and processed/delivered once the affected features are back up.

This scheduled maintenance affected: Intercom message delivery (Email, Chats and Posts, Mobile Push, Admin notifications), Intercom Messenger (Web Messenger, Mobile Messenger), and Intercom Web Application, Intercom APIs, Intercom Mobile APIs, Intercom Webhooks.
